QUALIFICATIONS

  • State licensureat the independent levelas asocial worker, or professional counselor by the respective Committee forProfessionalRegulation.

  • Coursework and professional experience thatindicatesknowledge of management/supervision techniques, mental health counseling, group and individual psychotherapy, treatment of major mental disorders and/or psychological evaluation techniques.

  • Experience working with the Severely Mentally Ill isrequired.

  • Two years supervisory experience is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Correctional officersprovidesecurity; however, some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault frompatientsexists. As in any healthcare setting, employees may be exposed to communicable and/or infectious diseases. Inside work with periodic traveling (inter and intra state) to other locations with exposure to weather, temperature extremes and hazardous road conditions.  Frequent standing and walking while presenting or performing job duties. Adheres to site/contract specific on-call requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees must be able to perform the following:

  • Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force and/or a negligible amount of forcefrequentlyor lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.

  • Required to kneel, stoop, crouch and/or crawl occasionally.

  • Must have andmaintainsufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical,mentaland emotional) situationsencounteredon the job without compromising your health and well-being or that of your fellow employees or that of inmates.

JOB SUMMARY

Providedirect clinical and consultation servicesin accordance withthe policies and procedures ofYesCareCorpand the Department of Corrections. Responsiblefor overall planning, organizing, directing,coordinatingandmonitoringof all institutional contracted mandates,related to theresidential treatment unitprogram. Provideclinical and administrative supervision and direction toresidential treatment unitstaff. Maintain effective communication and work collaboratively with Department of Corrections,YesCareCorp staff, and institutional administrative personnel. Coordinate clinical needs with Psychiatry within a correctional setting,in order toservice effectively the needs of thepatient. Maintain accountability for services provided throughappropriate documentationand participation in Quality Improvement program.

JOB DUTIES

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilitiesin accordance withthe organization’s policies and applicable laws.

  • Providebackup supervisory coverageforthe Mental Health Director.

  • Plan, supervise,coordinateand manage the clinical servicesprovided by mental health staffworking at theResidential Treatment Unitasdesignatedby the Director of Mental Health.

  • Assign specific duties and clinical responsibilities to mental health staffin accordance withthe positiondescriptions,educationand professional experience and to notify the Director of Mental Health Services of staff inability to perform such duties and responsibilities in a competent,ethicaland professional manner.

  • Provision of routinemental healthservices such as individual and group intervention, treatment planning, and discharge planning. Provision of crisis intervention services when requested by institutional staff, medical staff, or bypatientself-referral. Crisis intervention can include consultation with institutional staffregardingmanagement concerns,appropriate housing, referral and/orfollow-up. Crisis intervention activities may require on-call services.

  • Work collaboratively with the Health Services AdministratorandMental Health Directoron issuespertaining totheNational Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC)survey and timekeeping.

  • Provide direct clinical services and consultation servicesin accordance withthe policies, procedures and regulations of the institution and the Department of Corrections, andin accordance withthe standards of the NCCHC.

  • Represent the interests of mental health services with the institution’s administrative staff under the direction of theMental HealthDirectortofacilitatecooperation in the delivery of mental health services.

  • Interrelate and work effectively with theDepartment ofCorrections’ Staff,patientsand outside support agencies as delegated by the Mental HealthDirector.

  • Abide by security regulations andmaintainconfidentiality ofpatientinformationin accordance withstatelaw, the Department of Corrections’ policy, and the standards of theNCCHC.

  • Provideall administrative reports and documentationasrequired.

  • Allocate staff resources intheResidential Treatment Unittoensurethat institutional needs for clinical and consultative services are met ina timely, professional manner.

  • Supervise andmonitorResidential Treatment Unitstaff to ensure compliance with the health care policies, procedures and regulations of the institution and the Department of Corrections; the responsibilities/duties of their specific position descriptions, the employeepoliciesand procedures ofYesCareCorpand the employee guidelines of the Department of Corrections.

  • Maintain open communication with institutional administrative security, medical. mental healthand support staff tofacilitateoperation of mental health servicesin theResidential Treatment Unitand institutional needs.

  • Providestaff coachingand performance evaluations including applicable documentation ina timely, professional manner under the direction of the Director of MentalHealthServices.

  • Providein-service opportunities tostaffin the development/refinement of standard operations procedures.

  • Actively involved in staffselectionand recruitment.

  • On-site coordinationofpsychiatric services by provision of administrative support and patient monitoringas related topatients assigned to theResidential Treatment Unit.

  • Notify the Mental HealthDirectorand Health Services Administratorin a timely mannerof clinical or administrative concerns that may have a significant impact on theResidential Treatment Unitprogram.

  • Compliance with employee standards ofYes CareCorpand applicable employee standards of the Department of Corrections. Compliance includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance of a working environment and personal appearance consistent with professional responsibilities, development of harmonious working relationships andtimelynotification of supervisory personnel of absences from institution.

  • Assure provision of clinical evaluations as required by the Department ofCorrectionsadministrative staff orotherappropriate agencies. Evaluations are to be completed ina timely, professional manner and within the scope of staffmemberseducation and professional experience.

  • Provideinsight, ideas, thoughts, numericdataand technical information.

  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Mental HealthDirector.
